Christmas Treasure

Posted on: December 24, 2012

I love, love, love that my kids are so creative. This is one of the qualities I most admire about my three. We have seriously downsized our “stuff” and that includes our Christmas. The kids will will be blessed with less than a handful of gifts tomorrow. They have decided they want to start a new tradition of “treasure mapping” the gifts. They have all (without my knowledge) made maps of our home so all I have to do is hide their gifts in the spot I choose and then mark it on their map and put it in the stocking/boot. It’s so fun. And we didn’t even pull out Christmas decor this year – their choice. They have had enough packing/unpacking this year (as have I). And tonight they have the Bible ready for the birth of Christ as well. I love this. I love that they have done all of this without me… that it’s them. My heart is soaring.

And something else they did. They LOVE Christmas stockings. It’s been a special thing since they were placed with me. This year, they all unified and decided that the focus would be on filling MY stocking with their handmade and personally bought gifts for me. Can I tell you how special that is to me? Christmas stockings can be a bit lonely as a single parent but there isn’t anything lonely this year.
